Ferrite and austenite phase identification in duplex stainless steel using SPM techniques

ثبت نشده
چکیده

It can be challenging to properly identify the phases in electro-polished duplex stainless steel using optical microscopy or other characterization techniques. This letter describes magnetic force microscopy to properly identify the phases in electropolished duplex stainless steel. The results are also confirmed PM anoindentation with the current sensing atomic force and scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy. The difference in topography heights between the ferrite and austenite phases is attributed to the different etching rates during electropolishing, although these phases have different mechanical properties. The current in the austenite is much higher compared with the ferrite, thus current sensing atomic force microscopy can also be used to properly identify the phases. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. Effect of Thermomechanical Processing on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a Duplex Stainless Steel

Duplex stainless steels (DSSS) have a microstructure composed of ferrite and austenite phases that gives them a very good combination of mechanical and corrosion properties. These steels are desirable for many applications in the chemical and petrochemical industries. In the present study, a type of stainless steel was cast, solution annealed at 1200°C for 60 min and then quenched in water. Ini...

EBSD investigation of the effect of strain path changes on the microstructure and texture of duplex stainless steel during hot deformation

The effect of strain path changes on the microstructure/crystallographic texture characteristics was studied in a 22Cr-6Ni-3Mo duplex stainless steel subjected to several deformation regimes comprising forward and reverse torsion, performed at a temperature of 1000 °C using a strain rate of 1 s. A high-resolution EBSD technique, utilising an FEI Sirion FEG SEM in conjunction with a HKL Technolo...

Crystallography of Widmanstätten austenite in duplex stainless steel weld metal

Two kinds of austenite grow from d-ferrite during the cooling of the duplex stainless steel weld deposits studied here, Widmanstätten plates and allotriomorphs which precipitate at d–d grain boundaries. It is found using microtexture measurements that the preferred crystallographic orientation of the Widmanstätten austenite can be estimated using established theory if it is assumed that there i...
